Chicken meat contains 50% water, Food Agency says this is not dangerous

The chicken meat sold in Bulgaria has 50% water and increased quantities of salt, claim experts, quoted by the Trud daily. Experts say this is proven by European laboratories. The increased content of water is caused by the wish of the producers to increase the weight and the price. According to the experts, only foreign laboratories could show the exact water content in the chicken

The head of Bulgaria's Food Safety Agency Plamen Mollov said the increased water content did not pose health hazard and this is why it was not tested in Bulgarian laboratories.

He added that there were no cases of antibiotics in the chicken meat in Bulgaria, so it was safe and urged the consumers to choose the meat not by price, but by brand.
